When I started Dynamic Nutrition LLC, I simply just wanted to help people meet their fitness goals and educate them on nutrition. Luckily I have been able to help some amazing people by doing just that!
Recently, I have had a few friends who have come into personal issues with their children and are in need of help.
Not to long ago I did a donation to one of these cases and hopefully brought some awareness to their issue. While Gillian is still putting up her fight with Leukemia (please visit my site for more info to help her!) I was informed of another friend whose child was diagnosed with severe autistic disorder among other things.
Naturally I want to help everyone I can, in anyway I can. So I am happy to announce a new part of the business with be “Fitness for a Cause”. It will be a section for children in need of assistance. I will have write ups and donate to these causes and any new member signing up will have 50% of their monthly membership go to the cause of their choice. Each cause will have a code. Please send that code with your interest.
My hope is that I can help two parties with one shot. You can get quality online personal training and nutrition education while helping others in need. Help others and help yourself!
So let me introduce you to Chandler! She is in need of a service dog and the family needs help raise the funds. These dogs can run well over $15,000!!
After speaking with Chandler’s mother I was told that around 16 or 17 months they noticed something was wrong. Their normally happy, babbling baby girl had stopped talking. She also became impossible to take out in public. Unfortunately, this happened right around the time that they were moving from South Carolina to New York, and also exactly the same time that their other child was born.
They attributed her new mute state and increased frustration and anxiety to the new surroundings and a new baby at home. At around 21 months her new pediatrician in New York became worried that she wasn’t talking or babbling, and suggested that intervention was going to be necessary if they didn’t do something.
So, at that time, they began doing everything they could to help her start talking. They labeled things, bought flash cards, and pointed out and said the name of everything they encountered all day long. It took a little while, but she eventually started asking, “what’s it?” and waiting for them to tell her the names of things. Over time, she not only got her speech back, but now has a very advanced vocabulary.
Despite that, her meltdowns continued. She stopped eating anything aside from one specific meal of “chickens & taters.” She couldn’t calm down or be comforted enough to go to sleep on her own. She began hurting herself when she would get upset, and despite that new advanced vocabulary, she couldn’t express what was wrong when she became upset. Only gibberish or irrelevant words would come out and be repeated over and over.
It took nearly 6 months to get all of the referrals that they needed and get her official diagnosis, which is Severe Autistic Disorder, severe ADHD and sleep disorder.
She sleeps very little. She has a difficult time “turning off” or being comforted enough to sleep. Rituals must be repeated over and over, and if they are not done correctly, she will fall to pieces. If any part of her ritual is missing, she will not sleep. But just because the rituals are completed still doesn’t mean that she will be able to sleep. She takes sleeping medication now to help with this, but still some nights is awake until around 1 or 2 am.
She is a wanderer, which is exactly how it sounds. She will wander away. I realize that doesn’t sound like much, but you must imagine that they live in the busiest city in the US, and their house sits right on the water of the Long Island Sound. When she gets out, it is terrifying. Is he gets her assistance dog, it will be trained to track her. Hopefully with his help, she will never get out alone.
Everything in their life has to be done exactly the same every single day. If any part of it is different, it will trigger a meltdown.
Her mother gave me an example of what causes a meltdown:
“I one night made a tea before bed one night, and Chandler helped me. Every day after, we had to make that same tea, the same way, even if I didn’t want to drink it, she still had to make it.
Going out in public will almost always trigger a meltdown. She cannot handle crowds, loud noises, or bright lights. She becomes overstimulated very quickly. Her meltdowns are quite severe. They can last full out for up to an hour, during which she hurts herself, and anyone around her. She will hit, kick, bite, throw things, flail and scream. Its emotionally and physically exhausting for all of us.
Her dog will be trained to help calm her down when a meltdown comes on, or he senses that it may be coming on. He will be trained to redirect her behavior from something that is upsetting her, or is possibly harmful to her (such as redirecting her from trying to leave the house.)
He will be trained to be tethered to her in public, so that she can walk on her own, instead of having to be confined to a stroller or baby carrier.
Chandler is incredibly intelligent, and she never forgets anything. For that reason, a lot of people that maybe meet her for only a few minutes think that her disability must not be a big issue, but it breaks my heart for her on almost a daily basis.
Being that <Her Husband> is in the Navy, and that we will be moving again (possibly many times), her assistance dog is a constant that we really feel like she needs to keep her on stable ground.”
Chandler is need of a service dog. This pup will help calm her down and keep her safe. Please help in anyway you can. Here are some Links to help donate and assist them.
